Discover the Château de Bouges
🏰 The Château de Bouges: elegance and history in the heart of Berry
Nestled in Bouges-le-Château in the Indre department, this elegant 18th-century residence is much more than just a château: it's a true invitation to travel back in time and discover the French art of living.
✨ A neoclassical gem inspired by the Petit Trianon
Built between 1759 and 1765 by Claude Charles François Leblanc de Marnaval, the Château de Bouges is a refined replica of the Petit Trianon at Versailles.
Its Italianate architecture, balanced facades, and 58 rooms spread over three levels bear witness to the lavish taste of its first owner.
📜 A rich and eventful history
The land of Bouges was first mentioned in the 10th century. It passed through the hands of many noble families, including the Medici in the 15th century.
Catherine de Medici offered part of the estate to her advisor Jean-Baptiste Seghizo in 1547.
After Leblanc de Marnaval, ruined by his ambitions, the château had several illustrious owners, including Prince Talleyrand, who gave it to his niece, the Duchess of Dino, in 1818.
In the 20th century, Henry Viguier, director of the Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville in Paris, and his wife Renée revived the estate. Passionate about art and equestrianism, they modernized the facilities and enriched the château with exceptional furnishings.
🌳 An enchanting estate to discover
The château is surrounded by 80 hectares of greenery, including an English-style park, French-style gardens, a flower garden, and a large greenhouse housing exotic plants.
The outbuildings house stables, a luxury saddlery, and a collection of horse-drawn carriages.
Visitors can also admire the richly decorated interiors, where each room tells a story, including that of the Viguier couple, whose passion for flowers and horses still permeates the premises.
